EPISODE 149

 

Back at Hernan and Adrianna's house,

Adrianna agrees that it will be a lot for him, but there isn't much they can do, except hope and pray that things work out in the best interests of Martin, Marianna, and Dianna. She then asks him if he and Martin have talked about the issue. Hernan admits that they haven't. He says that he gets the feeling that Martin and Marianna haven't either. Adrianna asks him what he means. Hernan says that he knows both Marianna and Martin quite well and he just gets the feeling that they are both downplaying their feelings for each other. Adrianna says that it's all so unbelievable how everything is turning out. 

She says that if anyone had told her that Martin and Marianna would develop feelings for each other, she would have thought that they were crazy. Hernan tells her that he wouldn't be so sure. Adrianna asks him why. Hernan says that he has always sensed that there was some powerful connection between Marianna and Martin for years. He always felt like they just clicked and Martin had a calming effect, on Marianna's fiery nature, even in the past. He then says that nature will take its course. Adrianna then says that there are some things that she needs to finish up on.

She starts to go but Hernan holds one of her hands. She looks up at him. Hernan says that it's not an emergency. He adds that Gisela is not around for the whole weekend, so they should relax. At the mention of her daughter's name, Adrianna smiles. She says that Gisela was really happy that she could go and visit Dianna in the hospital and his grandparents as well. Hernan remains quiet and so, Adrianna, asks him, what's wrong.

Back at the hospital basement parking,

Marianna says that they were just harassing her over her past mistakes and calling her a murderer. He tells her to continue being strong and that she has a lot of people who are supporting her. Marianna shrugs, she says that after all her mistakes, an incident like the one that happened was always bound to happen. She then says that she knows that people hate her because of her past mistakes and she wouldn't blame him if he did so.

Octavio says that he doesn't. He says that he admires her. Marianna asks him why he would admire someone like her. 

Octavio says that many people make mistakes, some more serious than hers but they don't have to deal with the repercussions in such a public manner. He adds that she is courageous and admirable because of that, because of owning up to her mistakes, and because she is relentlessly working to be a better person. Marianna smiles and thanks him for helping her. Octavio takes her hands into his and tells her that she shouldn't focus on what people think of her but she should keep her focus on what matters most, becoming a better person and her daughter. 

Marianna hears her name. Octavio steps aside and they come face to face with Martin. Martin looks from Marianna to Octavio, then back to Marianna. Martin clenches one hand. The scene before him bothered him. Whether he wanted to admit it or not. He was in love with Marianna and he was sure she loved him as well. So what was she doing? Marianna asks him if Dianna is okay. Martin says that she was okay, but kept on asking for her. Marianna realizes that she hasn't made introductions and introduces them.

Back at Hernan and Adrianna's

Hernan says it’s nothing. He says that he was just thinking about how much Gisela would enjoy being a big sister. Adrianna shakes her head and smiles. Hernan says that he is serious. He adds that he would never admit it to his sister because she already thinks too highly of herself, but his best childhood memories were with her. Adrianna says that she would also not mind a sibling for Gisela because she did enjoy growing up with Aranza and Antonio. Hernan says that they both agree and adds why wait. He then puts his arms around Adrianna. She looks at him and asks him how he can think of having another baby with everything that is going on.

She reminds him that Alejandro is still causing trouble. Hernan shrugs and says that they will stop him while going on with their lives and not stop him then go on with their lives. He then adds that trying will be half the fun. Adrianna shakes her head. He then kisses her, and she kisses him back. Slowly, at first, Hernan deepens the kiss, enjoying the moment. After some time, Hernan deepens the kiss further and then stops and carries Adrianna to their bed. They begin to undress each other as they continue kissing each other.

Elsewhere,

At the hospital,

Martin and Marianna are at the children's playground. Marianna asks him who is with Dianna, while he is with her. Martin says that Dianna is with Aranza. Marianna relaxes. She then asks Martin, why he wants to talk to her alone. She reminds him that Dianna wants to see her. Martin says that Dianna is fine with Aranza. He adds that Aranza is responsible. Marianna says it's okay that Aranza is with Dianna but she still doesn't know why he wanted to talk to her. 

Martin asks her if something is going on between her and Octavio. Marianna rolls her eyes and starts to walk away. Martin holds one of her hands and she turns back and stares at him. He again asks her if anything is going on between her and Octavio. Marianna glares at Martin and tells him that it’s none of his business. Martin says that she has come so far to start making mistakes at that point. Marianna asks him what he is talking about. Martin says that she has worked so hard to become a better person and she shouldn't lose focus and get sidetracked by getting into relationships that aren't worth it, with people she doesn't even love.

Marianna glares at Martin and says that she is going to become a better person, for herself and for her daughter but that doesn't mean she can't have a social life or fall in love. She says that she needs to hang around people other than him and her family. With his free hand, Martin traces a finger, down Marianna's lip. She closes her eyes for a second then asks him what he is trying to do. Martin asks her why she is denying the powerful connection between them.

At Antonio and Gabriela's house,

Antonio is in the kitchen. He came to get a glass of water. He hears someone call him daddy and turns and sees Hannibal. He is holding a picture. Antonio walks over to his son and asks him if he is fine. Hannibal says that he is thirsty. Antonio asks him if he wants water. Hannibal shakes his head and says that he wants juice. Antonio remembers when he was seven and he had gone to his grandparent's house. His grandmother scolded him for drinking a lot of juice and almost no water. He then smiles at his son. The child is just like him. Antonio then notices the picture his son is holding. He asks Hannibal what he drew. Hannibal shows Antonio the picture. There is a child and an older man. 

Antonio asks Hannibal who the people are. Hannibal says that it is him and his grandfather (Gabriel). He adds that his grandfather is strong and brave and he wants to be like him. Antonio asks him how he knows all that. Hannibal smiles and says that mummy said so. Antonio tells himself that it's just like Gabriela to make her father into a superhero infront of their son and not consider him. He says that he wants his son to see him as a role model. Hannibal shakes Antonio's hand and Antonio looks at him. He then says that he wants juice. Antonio shakes his head and says that he will have milk instead. Hannibal starts to cry and says that he wants juice. Antonio stands his ground. Hannibal starts throwing tantrums on realizing that he will not get his way.

Back at the hospital playground,

Marianna tells Martin that she is tired of his mind games. He asks her what she means. Marianna says that she doesn't want his cat and mouse games. She says that she doesn't want him to keep on using her as a toy for amusement by kissing her when he is bored then acting like nothing ever happened, most of the time. Martin tries to touch her. Marianna recoils and frees herself from him. She, however, doesn't flee. Martin tells her that they already talked about that. Marianna says she hasn't forgotten. 

She adds that she remembers that he said that their involvement would be complicated because of everything that has happened and because of Dianna. She also says that she wouldn't want to confuse Dianna or cause problems between him and his family. She tries to walk off but Martin walks infront of her. He moves closer to her and runs a hand through her hair. Marianna tells him that it would be better if they had their own lives and kept away from each other. She says that he has his own life and goes on dates and the same way she let him be is the same way, he should let her be. 

Martin reminds her that she was jealous when he went out. She glares at him and insists that she didn't care. He asks her why she was always in a bad mood with him the morning after any dates he went on. Marianna glares at him and says that he has a very active imagination. She tries to go but he holds on to her. Martin says that it's time they stopped pretending and end the games. Marianna asks him what he means. Martin says that they are in love with each other. Marianna rolls her eyes and starts to say that he is out of his mind but she doesn't get to finish, because Martin kisses her. Marianna puts her arms around him and kisses him too.

Back at Antonio and Gabriela's house,

Antonio looks at his son, calmly and patiently. Hannibal is still crying. He then tells him that he cannot stop taking water just because there is juice in the house. He also tells him that water is good for him. Hannibal shakes his head and says no. Gabriela comes into the kitchen and is surprised at what is going on. Hannibal runs crying and calling her mummy. She carries him and soothes him until he is quiet. She then looks questioningly at Antonio. He says that Hannibal isn't drinking water at all just because there is juice in the house. Gabriela shakes her head then asks Hannibal if he will take milk instead. Hannibal thinks over it, then agrees. Antonio watches Gabriela go to the fridge, get a packet of milk and pour Hannibal a glass of milk.

She then walks over to him and whispers to him to follow her. Antonio sighs but silently follows her. When they are out of the kitchen she asks him why he wouldn't give, Hannibal, a glass of juice. Antonio says that the child does not drink enough water normally and things get worse whenever there is juice. Gabriela sighs and says that it's not a big deal and anyway Hannibal is just a child. Antonio says that he needs to learn that he can’t get his way all the time and especially with tears because that's emotional manipulation. He then adds that he doesn't want their son to turn into a spoilt self-entitled brat. Gabriela says that she too doesn't want to raise a little monster but he needs to be gentle and remember Hannibal is barely four.

Antonio tells Gabriela that she is too lenient with the child and someone needs to be the disciplinarian. Gabriela looks at Antonio and asks him if he isn't turning into his grandfather and being harsh and dictatorial. Antonio says that he isn't. He adds that he doesn't think Hannibal should always be told yes, otherwise he will grow up self-entitled and spoilt. Gabriela sighs and turns to leave. Antonio moves near her and holds her arm. She looks at him. He says that he doesn't want them to argue, about it anymore. He adds that they should talk about it and reach an agreement, for Hannibal's benefit. Gabriela agrees. Antonio kisses her on the forehead.

Back at the hospital playground,

Marianna pulls away from Martin but doesn't move far away. She tells him that she doesn't want to make another mistake. Martin asks her how she will be making a mistake when they both have feelings for each other. Marianna says that their relationship would be a mistake. Martin says that if it's because of her past mistakes, it shouldn't bother her. Marianna says that whether they would like to admit it or not it is a problem.

She takes a deep breath and says that he deserves someone better, someone, he can be proud of and not someone who will be an embarrassment. 

Martin says that he loves her despite her faults and he isn't embarrassed about her past. Marianna says that the trial will always be looming over her head and none of them knows how long she will be sentenced.

She adds that it would be selfish of her to expect him to wait for her or stop living his life. Martin reminds her about the plea bargain she agreed to, before giving her evidence. Marianna says that even with that, she could still get five to ten years because of the seriousness of the charges and the multiple accounts. Martin tells her to be positive and continue bettering herself. He says that life is short and is meant to be enjoyed. 

He also says that things may turn out better than they expected.

Marianna says that there isn't any point in them starting a relationship if she will go to jail for ten years. Martin says that she won't. She asks him how he knows that. She says that her life is over and she's only pretending to be strong for her daughter. Martin moves closer to her and tells her that they will get through their problems. Marianna sighs. In another lifetime, if she had made different choices, she would have been happy with Martin.

One week and some days later, on Wednesday,

In the mid-morning,

Alejandro, Isabella, and Horacio were discussing the recent developments. Isabella and Horacio had been notified, the previous day, of Gabriel and Anna Patricia's intentions to adopt Ricardo, as part of the legal formalities of the process. Isabella says that no one would have believed that Gabriel and Anna Patricia were going to be the ones who would end up wanting to adopt Ricardo. It is a very interesting development. Horacio says that it doesn't matter, because either way, they will not make things easy for them. He then asks Alejandro, when Diana's custody trial begins. Alejandro says that it begins the next week, on Monday.

Later, at Montes De Alba Inc.,

There is excitement and commotion at the company. The police have come yet again. Work comes to a standstill as people are eager to know who is in trouble this time. People can't forget the time the police came and arrested Marianna, Isabella, Horacio, and Alejandro. After going through security, the police head straight to Carlos’s office, where they find Helena and Carlos in a meeting. They are both shocked and demand to know the reason for the intrusion. One of the officers removes two warrants and tells Helena and Carlos that they are both to be detained for questioning at the station. 

Carlos is furious and asks why they are to be detained. Another officer looks at Helena and says that they have reason to believe that her brother Adrian Alvarez and his wife Paulina Alvarez Garcia were murdered. For several seconds there is pin-drop silence as both Helena and Carlos recover. Helena speaks first and asks the officers what they mean. She adds that her brother and sister-in-law died in a car crash many years ago. The officer says that evidence has turned up and, they have begun investigating the crash.

Carlos says that regardless of whether Adrian and Paulina were murdered or not, he doesn't see why he and Helena have to be detained. The officer says that there are a few questions that they have to answer regarding the murder. Helena says that she will not give any statement without her lawyer present. One of the officers says that it's not a problem and that they can call the lawyer and wait for them at the station.
