This is a re-writing of the Grimm's fairytale, Hansel and Gretel as a Telenovela.
Twins Hernan and Gabriela Montes De Alba are born into privilege but destined for heartbreak. As the heirs to Montes De Alba Inc., a prestigious food production empire, their future seems bright. But tragedy strikes early—their mother, Rebecca, succumbs to complications shortly after giving birth. Their father, Gabriel, devastated but determined, devotes himself to raising his children.
Unbeknownst to Gabriel, danger lurks within his own company. Carlos Diaz, a senior executive with ambitions of power, has long coveted control of the Montes De Alba fortune. He enlists his secret lover, Helena Alvarez, to infiltrate the family by seducing and marrying Gabriel. When the twins are two years old, Helena becomes their stepmother. She brings with her a veneer of care, but beneath it lies a calculated plan to destroy the family.
Helena’s schemes grow more complex when her niece, Adrianna, is orphaned in a tragic car accident and comes to live with them. At the same time, Carlos’s ex-lover, Rosa Isela, dies of cancer, leaving behind a young son, Antonio. These children, too, become pawns in the couple’s sinister games.
As the twins grow, Gabriel remains blissfully unaware of the danger. When Hernan and Gabriela turn six, Helena and Carlos decide it is time to strike. But Helena, always the strategist, decides to cement her position by having Gabriel’s child. Though she initially never wanted children of her own, she uses the pregnancy to solidify her control of the family.
Carlos is blindsided by the news and furious about the disruption to their plans, but Helena insists this is the best way to secure their future. Gabriel, overjoyed by the pregnancy, has no idea it seals his fate. At four months pregnant, Helena and Carlos murder Gabriel, making it appear as a tragic accident.
Helena gives birth to a daughter, she names Aranza, five months later. Eventually she begins crafting the next phase of her and Carlos' plan. A little under two years later, during a family trip to a remote forest, Helena and Carlos abandon the twins, leaving them to die in the wilderness.
Scared but determined, Hernan and Gabriela cling to each other for survival. Miraculously, they are found by Armando and Luisa, a kindhearted couple from a nearby small town. Armando and Luisa have a 2 year old son, Aurelio. Armando has a sister, Anna Patricia, who's son, Martin, is 8 ( same age as the twins. At this time, Adrianna is 7, Antonio is 8 and Aranza is 1 year) . The twins are taken in and given a new life, but their bond becomes their greatest strength as they face an uncertain future. They have to change their names and play dead, to stay alive.
They go back to the town, where they lost it all. When they are 24, they get jobs at their father's company. They meet their half sister, Aranza, a sweet, joyful, energetic 17 year old, uncorrupted by Helena and Carlos evil ways. They also meet, Antonio ( now 24) and Adrianna ( now 23). Quite quickly Sparks fly between Adrianna and Hernan, Antonio and Gabriela and Aranza and Aurelio ( who is now 18 years). Martin also begins dating Emma, a friend of Gabriela's at the office. They meet a handsome stranger, in his late forties, who they feel a quick bond with. There is a sense of calmness and peace when they are with him. He is a patient at a mental health facility. He has no known family. He has been there for nearly 17 years. The twins and eventually their aunt, Anna Patricia become regular visitors, to this patient. The twins are faced with the challenge of navigating the relationships with their partners and forming a bond with their sister, while using other identities.
There are however challenges. Isabella, Antonio's ex girlfriend, still wants him and sets out to be a thorn in his relationship with Gabriela. Meanwhile, her friend, Marianna, gets infatuated with Hernan and causes problems for his relationship with Adrianna. To add to all of this, Horacio ( Gabriela's ex) and Alejandro ( Adrianna's ex) still want them. Isabella, Marianna, Horacio and Alejandro team up to break up Hernan and Adrianna and Antonio and Gabriela. To complicate matters further, Antonio's grandparents, especially his grandmother, don't approve of him dating Gabriela ( they are of course unaware she is a lost heiress). Meanwhile Martin and Marianna are constantly bickering and at each other's necks. Eventually the endless schemes work and the couples break up.
Time passes and Hernan and Gabriela learn a shocking truth about the stranger they met earlier. What is his connection to the twins? Why do the twins insist that Aranza meets him? Why does Aranza form a bond with him too? They also learn the truth about the schemes that broke them and their partners apart. This shocking revelation, leads to Emma's murder. Martin is devastated. Gabriela turns to Antonio for help through out this whole period. Eventually, Adrianna, Antonio and Aranza learn the truth about the twins true identities and are understandably hurt. Will they forgive them?
The stranger and Anna Patricia get closer and form a deep bond. Marianna begins to have a change of heart. Hernan tells Martin to get her to help them get justice for Emma and all the things Isabella, Marianna, Horacio and Alejandro have done to them. Reluctantly Martin does that. However the more time he spends around Marianna, the more it becomes clear that an attraction is growing between them. A secret is revealed that changes Marianna's life. She learns of a previously unknown family connection. The stranger and Anna Patricia become a couple
Marianna eventually agrees to help Martin and Hernan. An explosive secret shakes Adrianna's world and the control Helena and Carlos have over the company.
Will the twins get back their stolen legacy ? Will the twins find justice and reclaim their rightful place? Will the stranger heal and get his life back. Just who is he?
