Back at Martin's house,
Marianna tells Martin that some rules have to be set. He asks her what she is talking about. Marianna says that she will not let him use her again. Martin looks at Marianna, completely confused. Marianna says that he can go out with whoever he wants but he should leave her alone. She says that she doesn't mind him going out on dates and coming back at whatever time he wants, but he shouldn't try to kiss her ever again. She also says that she knows that she has made mistakes but she won't let him use her as a distraction when he is bored.
Martin asks her why she would think that he would misuse her. He says that he cares about both her and Dianna too much to hurt her. Marianna glares at him in an I -don't- believe -you- tone. She tells him that he doesn't have to lie. She says that it is clear that he doesn't respect her. Martin tries to move closer to Marianna but she tells him to leave her alone. He keeps his distance. She says that the fact that he went out on a date, came back late at night or early in the morning, and is trying to kiss her, is evidence of his lack of respect.
Martin tells Marianna that nothing happened on the date. She rolls her eyes at him. She tells him that she is not stupid and asks him to spare her details and explanations. She says that he must take her for a fool if he thinks that she will believe that he went out on a date and came back in the wee hours and nothing happened. Just then they hear a noise. Dianna is awake. She opens the kitchen door and enters. She looks from Martin to Marianna. She then runs to Martin and starts crying.
He carries her and asks her what happened. Dianna says that she became sad when he didn't come yesterday and she thought he didn't like her anymore. Martin wipes her tears away with his hands and says that he loves her very much and she is his little princess. Dianna smiles and lays her head on his shoulder. Martin looks at Marianna. She gets the hidden message. Their conversation is far from over, and they will have to continue it.
Back at Antonio and Gabriela's house,
Horacio is annoyed that he isn't getting to Gabriela and that he isn't getting the reaction that he wanted. He however continues and says that his second price is that she has to give him twenty-five percent of her inheritance. Gabriela tells him that he is garbage. She says that she would never use Ricardo as a bargaining chip. She then hangs up, on him. She runs a hand through her hair and sighs. Horacio is a nutcase. She picks up her glass of water and gulps it all. She turns and sees Antonio. He walks near her and asks her how she is. Gabriela doesn't have the energy to lie, neither does she want to. She tells him that Horacio called her.
.
Automatically Antonio clenches his hand. He then asks her what Horacio wanted. Gabriela says that he was a pain as usual and then says that he said that he would give her a divorce in exchange for Ricardo and twenty-five percent of her inheritance. Gabriela says that money can be replaced but she would never use Ricardo in such a twisted barter trade. Antonio agrees. He says that handing over such a young child to Horacio is a death sentence for the child. Antonio tells her to be patient. He says that sooner or later, they will be free. He then places a hand over her shoulder. She lays her head on his shoulder.
Some hours later,
At Martins house,
He is alone when he hears a knock on the door. He was watching something on his laptop in the sitting room. He pauses the movie and goes to open the door. He is somewhat shocked to see his grandmother standing there. He, however, welcomes her in. Clara walks in. She walks ahead of Martin and looks around. He silently sighs. He says that he is sure that she is there to grill him about Marianna. Martin, however, follows his grandmother into the sitting room.
He then asks her if she wants something. Clara says that some cold juice would be fine. Martin smiles, as he turns to go for it. It is something he has in common with his grandmother. Clara calls him and he turns and faces her. She asks him half sternly if he has ever given Dianna cold sugary drinks. Martin says he hasn't. Clara gives him an I don't believe you look. Martin says that he and Marianna let her eat ice cream and slightly cold yogurt but that is it.
Elsewhere,
At the city graveyard,
Gabriel, the twins, Gisela and Hannibal are there for the first time, as a family to visit Rebecca's grave. It is an emotional time for all of them as it is the first time they have openly visited the grave as themselves and without fear of anything. First, their father goes, then Hernan goes, holding Gisela Paulina's hand, then Gabriela goes holding Hannibal's hand.
Elsewhere
At Damian and Natalia's house,
It is sometime after Marianna and Dianna have arrived. They have greeted everyone but Dianna is still holding her mother's hand. Santiago smiles at her. Dianna is like a ray of sunshine. She reminds him so much of Diego as a child. Renata asks her grandfather if he is fine. Santiago waves her away. He says that he is fine. He says that Dianna reminds him so much of Diego when he was a young child. Dianna looks at Santiago and asks him if he knows a lot of stories. Santiago says that he will tell her a lot of stories.
Dianna smiles at him. Thiago asks Marianna, how old Dianna is. Marianna says that she will be four years old in two months. Thiago says that he will be twelve around the same time. He then adds that they should have a joint birthday. Everyone looks at each other. Thiago looks at his mother. He is confused. He asks if he said something wrong. For Marianna, each day that she is free is a miracle. The case of the children and Emma's murder was going on. Evidence could be found at any time, causing a trial to start. She didn't know whether she would be free when Dianna turned four.
She might even be sentenced for so many years that she might never see Dianna grow up. Natalia tells him that he did not do anything. She tells him that he is a lot older than Dianna and what he likes as a twelve-year-old boy is very different from what Dianna likes as a four-year-old girl. Thiago shrugs. He looks at everyone and tells them that adults over-think things too much. He says that as long as he gets presents, he doesn't mind how the birthday is like. He adds that with some creativity they can merge what he likes and what Dianna likes. He looks at Damian and calling him grandpa, asks for a new bike. Renata frowns at Thiago then smiles.
At Ramon and Clara's house,
Ramon watches Anna Patricia and how she handles Ricardo. There is something different with his daughter whenever she is with the child. He makes her happy. Ramon knows how much Anna Patricia would have loved to have another child. Ricardo seemed to love her as well. Ricardo says that he wants to go to the toilet and he goes. Anna Patricia looks at her father and says that she was a little curious as to where her mother went.
Ramon says that she wouldn't say but with her mother's meddlesome ways, she must have gone to Martin's house. Anna Patricia says that she too is worried about Martin. She says that she doesn't like his situation with Marianna. She says that she understood him wanting to help Marianna when she was recovering from her injuries, but now she is fine. Ramon says that Alejandro is crazy and for Marianna and her daughter's sake she shouldn't stay alone.
Anna Patricia says that she understands all that but there has to be another way for Marianna and Dianna. She adds that the more Martin stays with Marianna the more hesitant or unlikely he will be to get into a relationship with someone good for him. Ramon asks her if her main concern is Martin falling in love with Marianna. Anna Patricia says that it is. She says that Marianna is very beautiful and her son is not aloof to that fact despite how much he may act like he is.
Back at Martin's house,
Clara asks Martin how he is. He says that he is fine. Clara looks at him disapprovingly. Martin asks her what she thinks he did wrong this time. Clara says there isn't anything wrong. She then asks him how long he will continue living with Marianna as if nothing has changed. Martin knows what she means but decides to indulge her. He asks her what she means. Clara says that it is very evident, at least to her that he has developed feelings for Marianna and vice versa. Martin remains silent and neither confirms nor denies that.
Clara continues and says that there is a lot to consider, the top of which is Dianna. She adds that additionally, they don't know how the trial will go and she doesn't want to see him get hurt if Marianna gets sentenced for a long time. Martin says that he already decided what he will do about Dianna. Clara looks at him suspiciously and asks him what he means. Martin says that he loves Dianna like she was his daughter and regardless of what happens with Marianna or the trial, he wants to legally adopt her. Clara looks at her grandson and is speechless.
She asks him if he is sure about his decision. Martin says that he is. Claudia reminds Martin that for Dianna's sake, he should be sure about his decision before he starts the process. She tells him that it won't be like buying something that he can resell if it bores him. Martin says that he has thought about it for a long time and he has been sure about his decision for some time. Claudia takes a sip of her juice. She is still very shocked. That was something she had not seen coming. She then asks Martin about his feelings for Marianna. She tells him not to lie because she knows him too well.
Back at Ramon and Clara's house,
Anna Patricia tells her father that she wants stability for her son. She says that she saw how long Martin took to start healing from Emma's death and she wants him to find a good woman, not someone who comes with baggage and is connected to what happened to the twins. Ramon asks Anna Patricia if she thinks Marianna is a killer. Anna Patricia says that she doesn't think so but that doesn't take away the fact that she hurt Hernan and Gabriela for years and caused them to suffer. Ramon says that he knows that she wants the best for her son but she can't decide for him.
She says that they both know that Martin is as stubborn as her and will do whatever he wants. Anna Patricia looks at her father and is about to start denying that. He reminds her that she was stubborn when younger and would do whatever she wanted. Anna Patricia smiles. Just then Ricardo comes back. He sits near Anna Patricia. Ramon tells her not to worry too much and that things will end well. She then looks at Ricardo and asks him if he is hungry. He says he is and she tells him that she will go make him something. Ricardo goes and sits near Ramon. He asks him if they can go play after. Ramon smiles at Ricardo and says that they can.
Back at Natalia and Damian's house,
Marianna is walking back from the shop with Thiago. He asks her what he should call her. Marianna asks her what he means. Thiago says that she is his mother's cousin so she is his aunt, but she is too young for the word. He then asks her if she is younger than his mother. Marianna says that she is. She says that his mother is nine years older than her. Marianna says that she doesn't mind him calling her aunt. They continue walking and run into Alejandro. Marianna is filled with fear, mostly for Thiago. She clutches, the shopping bag even more tightly. Alejandro looks at Thiago with mild curiosity. Thiago follows Marianna's reaction and regards Alejandro with annoyance.
Alejandro asks Marianna why she won't introduce him to her new friend. Marianna says that she has nothing more to say to him. With the shopping bag in one hand and Thiago's hand in another Marianna tries to leave. Alejandro grabs the hand with which she is holding Thiago. Thiago shouts at Alejandro to leave his aunt alone. In the shock of the moment, Alejandro releases Marianna. He looks at Thiago again and says so, the child is her nephew. He then folds his hands. He tells Thiago that he is Dianna's father and they should all get to know each other. Marianna clutches her free hand and tells him to stay away from Dianna and Thiago.
Back at Martin's house,
Clara looks at Martin patiently. She says that she has asked him a simple question. Martin knows that with his grandmother he cannot win in a battle of wills. He admits that he does find Marianna very attractive. Clara gives him a, what else look. Martin sighs. His grandmother can be so frustrating. He says that if she wants to know whether he is in a relationship with Marianna, then he isn't in one. Clara says she knows it isn't because he doesn't want or Marianna doesn't. Clara says that any kind of relationship between him and Marianna would be a bad idea because it would be so complicated.
Martin sits there uncomfortably. That isn't a conversation, he wants to have with his grandmother. Clara reminds him that no matter how much Marianna has changed, they can't forget what she did to his cousins because family comes first. Martin says that while he does find Marianna very attractive, he won't rush into anything because he doesn't want to confuse Dianna. Clara says that there are many more reasons apart from Dianna, why he should not get involved with Marianna.
She reminds him that as the eldest, he has to always show a good example to his younger cousins, especially Aurelio and Rosa Milagros because they are the two youngest. Martin says to himself that he always thinks about everyone else in the family before himself and has always been there to help his cousins, but Marianna makes him want to break rules and stop being the dependable, predictable child, all the time. Martin adds that she makes him feel alive and happy. Clara asks him if he is listening to her. Martin says that he is.
Back with Marianna and Thiago,
Alejandro says that there is nothing wrong with him wanting to see his daughter. Marianna says that they both know that he doesn't love Dianna and only wants to bother her. Alejandro sarcastically laughs. He says that those words are Ironic, coming from her. He reminds her that she is far from being a good mother. Alejandro sees the confused look on Thiago's face. He chuckles and sarcastically tells Marianna that he can see that she hasn't shown her newly acquired family, her true colors.
Marianna calmly tells Alejandro that she made mistakes but she admitted that and is working hard to change, for her daughter. Alejandro chuckles sarcastically. Thiago looks at the unfolding situation with interest. He then tells Marianna that they should go. Marianna tightly holds onto Thiago and the shopping bag and they leave. Alejandro doesn't try to stop them. He says that finding out about Marianna's family should be quite useful for him soon. He then turns and walks off.
