EPISODE 138

 

Elsewhere,

Hernan is in the boardroom with his father. He asks him why he did what he did earlier. Hernan tells his father that he practically told Helena and Carlos that he was planning for the company's future after their exit. Gabriel says at his age and with his medical history he can't effectively take charge of the company and there is nothing wrong with him saying that he wants his children to take over.

 

He then adds that as the eldest the position naturally falls to him. Hernan is still shocked. He tells his father that he may not be ready for such a responsibility. Gabriel looks at his son. He says that he believes in him. Hernan is still unsure. He tells his father that he has more belief in him than he has in himself. Gabriel tells him that he won't be alone. He tells Hernan that his sisters and everyone else they know and love will be there to help him.

 

Meanwhile,

Helena and Carlos are in her office,

Naturally, they were talking about Gabriel's bold declaration that his children, led by Hernan would take over the company. Carlos says that they need to do something before Gabriel outsmarts them. Helena says that it has been twenty-two years and there is no evidence to prove that they killed anyone and therefore they cannot be kicked out of the company. Carlos says that there is also Adrian and Paulina's death certificates and the report about their car.

 

Helena says that can be easily be explained. She says that no one will doubt that she is a sister still mourning her brother. Carlos folds his hands and asks her how they will explain why it is his father who has the documents. Helena shrugs. She says that's a non-issue. She adds that they can say something like it was for security purposes or she forgot it. Carlos cannot help shake the feeling that there is danger around the corner.

 

Back with Adrianna and Martin,

Adrianna asks Martin if he wants to adopt Dianna because she is Alejandro's daughter. Martin assures her that he isn't. He says that he would never use Dianna to settle scores or for vengeance. He adds that initially he was partially skeptical about having Dianna around and only did it for Marianna but with time he grew to love her. Adrianna says that if he is sure about adopting Dianna, she will support him. Martin thanks her. Adrianna adds that it will cause complications for him like in his dating life.

 

Martin shrugs. He adds that dating isn't too much of a priority for him and that anyone who would consider Dianna a problem isn't what he wants anyway. Adrianna tells herself that she strongly believes that Martin and Marianna have fallen for each other. She says that the times that she went over to visit Dianna and Marianna she could sense something had changed. Martin looks at her and asks her if she is fine. Adrianna says that she is okay.

 

She then asks Martin what will happen once Marianna is free and she meets someone and wants to start her life again. Adrianna watches Martin's reaction. He frowns, like the possibility of Marianna with someone else was too uncomfortable to bear. Martin says that he will share custody with her. He adds that the rest of whatever needs to be figured out they can figure out as they go along and make changes where necessary.

 

Meanwhile,

Antonio is sitting in his car. He needed a moment by himself. It had been an interesting morning. Gabriel had pulled a fast one of them. This was something none of them saw coming. To top it all off, his grandmother was still in the hospital, and there was the mystery of why his grandfather had the death certificates of Adrianna's parents and the report on their damaged car. Antonio tells himself that his grandfather probably has him followed. He adds that his father and grandfather are so predictable. He says that if there is anything fishy in how Adrianna's parents died, he has to find a way to investigate that without putting anyone in danger. He adds that Adrianna is his best friend and he owes her that.

 

Meanwhile,

Aranza and Gabriela are in another empty office. Aranza looks at her sister and asks her why she looks annoyed. Gabriela frowns but says she is fine. Aranza folds her hands and says she knows the problem. Gabriela looks at her sister and asks her what her nosy self thinks it is. Aranza rolls her eyes and tells Gabriela that she is jealous because their father praised Hernan and practically announced him as his successor during the meeting. Gabriela says that she is not. She admits that it bothers her a little but she is too mature for jealousy tantrums. Aranza rolls her eyes and smiles.

 

Several hours later,

At Renata's house,

Thiago is back from school. He finds his mother in the kitchen. She hugs him and he squirms and frowns. Thiago tells his mother that he is becoming a young man now and hugs are weird. He reminds his mother that he will be twelve very soon. Renata looks at her son and smiles. She tells him to go and take his bag to his room, change then come for tea. Thiago doesn't try to argue that he is tired or hungry and Renata is surprised.

 

Elsewhere,

Gabriel is with Anna Patricia at a nearby coffee house. She tells him that she heard about what happened during the meeting at the office. Gabriel smiles. He says that it was only a matter of time before the gloves came off. He adds that they cannot continue playing mind games with Helena and Carlos. Anna Patricia says she doesn't mind that part. She adds that sooner or later, Helena and Carlos would fall, and it was better, that his children started getting ready for the succession plan or the company will suffer. Gabriel asks her what part she minds then. Anna Patricia says that for the past few hours she has been wondering if he is trying to help Martin solely because he is her son.

 

Gabriel looks at her. He says that he has come to know Martin well and he can see he is clever. Gabriel adds that he has seen some of the company information including staff data and Martin's performance is always above exceptional. Anna Patricia says that she just doesn't want to allow Helena and Carlos to create trouble unnecessarily. Gabriel puts her hands into his and tells her that she has nothing to worry about. He says that Martin is very good at procurement and accounts and is a genius with numbers. Anna Patricia smiles with pride and agrees that her son is very clever.

 

Back at Renata and Thiago's house,

Thiago comes back into the kitchen. He pours himself a glass of juice and serves some freshly baked cookies. He tells his mother that he knows something is up. Renata asks him what he means. Thiago says she has been acting very secretive over the past few days and she didn't go to work that day. Renata says that she had some urgent things to do. Thiago asks her if it has something to do with whatever she talked about with his grandparents and great-grandfather. Renata looks at Thiago. She says to herself that she will have to tell him about Marianna and Dianna as soon as possible.

 

Thiago moves near her and shakes her arm when he notices her faraway look. She looks at him and tells him that she has something to tell him. Thiago takes a bite out of a nearby cookie then says that he is listening. Renata tells him that it is very important. Thiago says fine and goes and sits on his chair. Renata walks and sits near her son. Thiago asks his mother what happened. She tells him that they just found out that his great uncle had a daughter before he died. Thiago looks at his mother wide-eyed.

 

Meanwhile,

At Hernan and Adrianna's house,

Adrianna is in the kitchen thinking, when Hernan who had gone to the bedroom to get his phone, sees her. He asks her if she is fine. Adrianna says that she is. She adds that it has been a long day. Hernan agrees. He says that none of them could have seen what his father was planning. He adds that it makes him feel a little bit worried that he might not be able to live up to his father's expectations. Adrianna says that she understands how he feels. She says that they will all be there to help him. Hernan kisses her.

 

He then asks her what Martin wanted to talk to her about so urgently. Adrianna says that he wanted to talk to her about Dianna. Hernan asks her if Dianna is okay. Adrianna says that Dianna is fine.

She adds that Martin wanted to tell her that he had decided to adopt Dianna. Hernan is shocked. He says that Martin isn't the kind of person to make such a decision without thinking. Adrianna agrees. She then says that he already talked about it with Marianna and she's okay with it.

 

She adds that she can tell that Martin has bonded very well with Dianna. Hernan says it’s all okay but he was wondering if Martin wants to adopt her because she is the child of the person who killed his pregnant girlfriend. Adrianna says that she thought about that and she asked Martin about it and he assured her that he wasn't.

 

Elsewhere,

At Martin's house,

He has just finished telling her what happened at the office. Marianna is shocked. She says the twins' father has Aranza's personality. Martin agrees. He adds that neither Hernan nor Gabriela would have done something like that. Marianna asks him how he feels about being put on the spot like that. Martin shrugs. He says that it is a little bit uncomfortable. He adds that he is more of a background person. Marianna says that it's not like anything that was said was a lie. She adds that he is very clever and hardworking.

 

Martin smiles. He says the world must be ending if she is complimenting him. Marianna frowns at him. Martin adds that he also decided to talk to Adrianna. Marianna asks him what they talked about. Martin tells her that he told her that he wanted to adopt Dianna. Marianna asks him what Adrianna thought about it. Martin says that she was very shocked but said she would support him if he was sure it was what he wanted to do. Marianna is still a little unsure about it. Martin can see that. He tells her that between him, her, and Adrianna they can make it work, for Dianna's sake.

 

Back with Gabriel and Anna Patricia,

He tells her not to worry too much about the company, Helena or Carlos. He adds that the company will be fine and Helena and Carlos will fall soon. He says that he wanted to talk to her about something else. Anna Patricia asks him what he means. Gabriel looks at her seriously, then says that he has known her for years and he has come to fall in love with her. Anna Patricia fiddles nervously but says nothing. He says that he understands that she is afraid of Helena and Carlos and probably what other people might think but they shouldn't let that determine their happiness or control them.

 

 Anna Patricia sighs and says that she had Martin very young, at twenty, and his father died soon after Martin was born. Anna Patricia says that he was a good person and had accepted his child. Anna Patricia says that she has resigned herself to a fate of loneliness after so much heartache and disappointment. She adds that other relationships she tried having, failed because she couldn't have other children.

 

She also adds that the whispers, stares, and gossip, made everything even worse and left her broken for years. Gabriel doesn't interrupt. He lets her speak her heart out. She says that people can be so cruel and insensitive with their remarks. Anna Patricia wipes away a few tears with her tissue. She says that initially, the gossip was because she had Martin while so young, then it became about her inability to have more children.

 

Back at Renata's house,

Thiago asks his mother, where his aunt is. Renata says that she lives with a friend and with her daughter. Thiago asks her how old his cousin is. Renata says that she is a baby, and will turn four around the time he turns twelve. Thiago says that he would like to meet them. He then says that he will be the best big brother ever to his cousin and will always guide and protect her. Renata smiles at her son.

 

She then asks herself how she will come around to telling him about Marianna's past. She then tells Thiago that she wants to show him something. She then takes her phone and scrolls through it. She gives him the phone to see. It is a picture of her grandmother carrying her father when he was five years old. Thiago says that it's an old picture of his grandfather and great-grandmother. Renata says that his Aunt Marianna looks like an exact copy of his great grandmother when she was younger.

 

Back at Hernan and Adrianna's house,

Adrianna adds that Martin and Marianna also agreed to share Dianna's custody once Marianna is done with whatever sentence she gets. Hernan says that it is very good and mature of both Martin and Marianna. He then adds that they can expect Alejandro to cause trouble just like he is trying to do for them. Adrianna looks worried then says that with the kind of charges that he is facing, he should be kept away from Dianna. She adds that Dianna is very young and Alejandro will mess up her life. Hernan agrees. He adds that they will have to all work together to ensure Alejandro is kept away from Dianna.

 

Back with Gabriel and Anna Patricia,

Gabriel says that he can relate to how she feels. He adds that Rebecca died, shortly after the twins were born and Helena was a devil waiting to mess up his life and that of his children. He says that their experiences have made them better, stronger people. He says that he has three children and she has one, so he doesn't mind if she can't have any. He says that at his age, he wants to spend time with his grandchildren, then send them straight back to his children and enjoy watching them do the same things his children did to him.

 

Anna Patricia smiles. Gabriel continues and says that he wants to rebuild his life, and that doesn't include his children, grandchildren, and the company alone, but her as well. He adds that their problems won't end anytime soon but life can't stop because of it. He then places his hands over hers. Anna Patricia is still very afraid but decides to give herself another chance at love.

 

Anna Patricia says that she has been thinking about it and admittedly her mother has been on her case over it, but she has decided that they should give themselves a chance to be happy. Gabriel smiles and squeezes her hand. He adds that they will deal with Helena and Carlos and be very happy. He says that they should also thank her mother for her meddling. Anna Patricia smiles. He stands and walks over to her side. He kisses her and she kisses him back.
